Medical Detoxification

Drug and alcohol rehab treatment at Caron Texas begins with a medical evaluation and, when necessary, medically-assisted detoxification or detox.

Detox is a process both of ridding the body of the drugs and/or alcohol while simultaneously managing any withdrawal symptoms. It is not advisable to undertake substance detoxification without close medical assistance from experienced medical professionals. Drug rehab and alcohol patients undergoing detox at Caron Texas are closely monitored during the detox process.

In addition to the effects on a person’s mind, drug and alcohol abuse over an extended period of time can take a physical toll on the body. Not all substance abuse treatment patients require detox, but for those that do, detox can be the first step of the process between moving away from alcohol or chemical dependency toward recovery. The goal of detox is to stabilize the patient, eliminate the toxins in their body and keep them free of any medical issues that might interfere with the long-term treatment process.

At the Caron drug abuse and alcohol treatment facility north of Dallas, the decision for any individual to undergo medical detoxification is made by our medical professionals. The diagnosis and detox decision is based on an assessment of the patient’s withdrawal symptoms and/or complications from drug or alcohol dependency. The average duration of the patient’s stay in detox is approximately one to three days. Patients who require a longer detox process are individuals who may have experienced medical complications, severe dependency, have multiple drugs that they need to detox from, are opiate addicted individuals, or are an individual whose physical status makes it difficult for them to tolerate withdrawal as quickly.

At Caron Texas, detox rehab generally does not delay the substance abuse treatment program; for most of our patients, substance abuse treatment happens simultaneously with detox. Patients in detox meet with our counseling staff, participate in groups, lectures and events, and are totally involved in addiction rehabilitation from the moment they enter our doors —and begin their journey towards recovery.

In order to avoid serious consequences and the pain of withdrawal, patients should choose a safe medical detox program designed specifically to eliminate the physical toll stemming from an addiction to alcohol or drugs. Although many patients are fearful of going through detox because they believe it will be a difficult, even painful, experience, at Caron Texas, our patients can be assured that our professional and compassionate staff is dedicated to making each patient’s safety, comfort and peace of mind their top priority.
