Family Counseling

Addiction is a disease that impacts the entire family and Family Counseling is critical to the healing process not only for the addict but the other family members, as well.

Years of addiction can throw the family into chaos, resulting in issues of anger, lack of trust, hopelessness and resentment. It is only through involvement in the patient’s addiction treatment plan that the entire family can begin healing. By participating in the addict’s recovery, the family can begin anew from a healthier, happier place.

From the moment a patient walks through the doors of Caron Texas, the family is included in the rehab and recovery process. Throughout the patient’s time in treatment, counselors involve families in the patient’s treatment process, either in person or by phone. Family members learn that drug and alcohol dependency is a disease and their involvement in treatment helps them to better understand addiction and the impact it has on them. The family also helps in the patient’s recovery by providing the insight and information about the patient that only loved ones and caregivers would know.

Families are strongly encouraged to attend the Caron family education program. This program includes several days of education with a focus on the family and learning ways to use this information in relation to their personal family issues and ongoing recovery.

Family members are also encouraged to meet with their own personal therapists and attend Al-Anon meetings. When the patient returns home after substance abuse treatment, with the patient’s permission, Caron will include the family in aftercare when an addiction counselor follows up with the family member(s) through Recovery Care Services.
