Workshop Description:
The term Codependency has been used and abused for many decades now and is ready for a makeover. This workshop will clarify and humanize the concept as a healthy human response to the abnormal experience of instability, insecure attachment, neglect, and overall inconsistency in important relationships due to mental illness, addiction, health, financial distress and other stresses. It is a systemic reaction that can derail all members of a family to varying degrees by focusing on external factors for one’s wellbeing. This workshop will outline and demonstrate an experiential group approach to addressing attachment injuries.
About the Presenter:
Ann Smith, LPC, LMFT is the Executive Director of Breakthrough at Caron. She is the author of Grandchildren of Alcoholics and Overcoming Perfection: The Key to a Balanced Recovery. Ann is founder and Director of Breakthrough Healthy Living Workshops in 1992, a five and a half day residential group therapy program designed to help adults shift destructive life patterns, improve relationships and foster personal growth. The program merged with Caron’s Treatment Center program in a new facility opening in April 2009. Family sculpture, psychodrama and other experiential techniques are utilized in small therapy groups with an emphasis on generational dynamics and individual patterns in painful families.
